Not from Xero. Xero Projects has a start-stop timer in the browser and in the Xero Projects mobile app, but there's no desktop or menu bar app for Mac or Windows.
Why people ask for one
A request for “a timer button that sits on the desktop taskbar” was posted to Xero's product ideas forum in September 2026. The person asking adds that using the website doesn't work well because you get logged out. On 16 October 2026 Xero moved it to Gaining support, saying it understands the request for a desktop timer that connects directly to Xero Projects.
Other requests on the same forum point at the same gaps:
- Saving one entry to start another loses the time already running.
- Recording start and finish times, not just a duration.
- Keeping the timer visible as you move around Xero.
What to use in the meantime
- Xero's mobile app timer. Free, and it writes straight to Projects. Fine if your phone is always nearby.
- Punchcard. A Mac menu bar timer built for exactly this gap: one click or ⌥⇧⌘P from any app, elapsed time in the menu bar, entries saved on your Mac first and pushed to Xero Projects as time entries on their tasks. Join the waitlist →
- A separate tracker. Toggl Track and Harvest both have desktop apps, but your hours live in their system, not in Xero Projects.
